Industrial Fluid Meters for Accurate, Reliable Measurement

Accurate fluid measurement is critical in petroleum, chemical, industrial, and commercial applications. Whether you are transferring fuel, batching chemicals, loading trucks, or monitoring process flow, the right meter helps you control costs, protect equipment, and maintain compliance.

Fluid meters are designed to monitor flow rates and totalize volume for a wide range of liquids, including water, solvents, petroleum products, glycols, lube oils, and other industrial fluids. While they resemble water meters in form and function, industrial fluid meters are built with specialized internal wetted components to withstand different viscosities, temperatures, and chemical compatibilities.

Northwest Pump supplies high-quality fluid meters from trusted manufacturers to support loading racks, custody transfer, process lines, and metering skids across the Western United States. Our team can help you match meter technology to your fluid type, flow range, and performance requirements.

LC Meters

LC Meters

Liquid Controls M & MA Series of rotary motion positive displacement (PD) meters provide the ultimate measurement accuracy for custody transfer of petroleum, LPG, and industrial liquids. In addition to presenting minimal pressure drop through the LC meter, it incorporates a unique design that minimizes intrusion into a flowing stream of liquid.

Positive displacement meters from Liquid Controls have been designed to provide an accurate, trouble-free service life with minimal maintenance. LC meters have a unique construction that results in low-pressure drop for most liquids, delivering superior performance and reducing the demand on the pump system.

Superior Performace Features:

Low-pressure drop: will operate on gravity flow or pump pressure.

Sustained accuracy: no wear from metal-to-metal contact inside the measuring chamber means minimal deterioration in accuracy over time, fewer recalibrations, and longer service life.

Wide temperature range: products can be metered accurately from 40° F (-40° C) to160 ° F (71°C).

Wide viscosity range: LC meters can accurately meter products from less than 30 SSC to 1,500,000 SSU.

Maximum adaptability: right angle design with a choice of stock or custom elbows/ fittings provides unequaled mounting flexibility to meet your installation requirements.

Tuthill Fill-Rite Meters

Tuthill Fill-Rite Meters

Tuthhill Fill-Rite offers a full range of positive displacement TS Oval Gear Meters, with weights and measures custody transfer accuracy for the measurement of a wide range of fuels, heavy oils, glycols, lube oils, and petrochemicals. These meters are able to handle the pressure and maintain their accuracy due to the use of only two oval gears eliminating metal-metal contact, fewer seals, low differential pressure, and less slippage due to the patented waveform gear design.

TS Series has been well suited for use in fuels transfer and processing, high-speed batching and loading, stationary dispensing, and industrial and petrochemical refinements and processing. Combined with a mechanical register, printer, and solenoid batching, it is possible to build a system that provides performance, accuracy, and easy maintenance, making the TS Series a smart option.

Lastly, the Aluminum TS Series offers a full range of metering options ranging from 1, 1-1/2, 2, and 3 sizes with 40-200 GPM at a 150 PSI. These highly precise meters are available in a wide range of configurations to accommodate different temperatures, viscosities, chemical compatibilities, mechanical register calibrations, strainers, filters, air eliminators, airchecks, back pressure, and preset valves, flanges, and seals.

Applications

  • 150 GPM (570 lpm) Max
  • 150 psi at 100°F = 10 bar at 40°C
  • 2 Bolted Companion Flanges with NPT or BSP port
  • Meter Only is CE and ATEX Certified

Why Accurate Fluid Measurement Matters

For many operations, even small measurement errors can add up quickly. Quality fluid meters help you:

  • Improve operational efficiency by measuring actual flow and adjusting processes accordingly.
  • Protect margins by preventing product loss and ensuring accurate billing or custody transfer.
  • Support compliance and reporting where documented flow or volume is required.
  • Monitor system health by identifying abnormal flow conditions that may indicate leaks, restrictions, or pump issues.
  • Standardize operations across multiple locations with consistent, repeatable measurement.

Types of Fluid Meters and Common Applications

Industrial fluid meters come in several designs, each suited to specific products and operating conditions:

  • Positive displacement (PD) meters – Ideal for high-accuracy measurement of fuels, oils, LPG, and other clean liquids, often used in custody transfer and loading applications.
  • Oval gear meters – A type of PD meter designed for precise measurement of viscous fluids and fuel products.
  • Piston meters – Provide excellent accuracy and wide turndown, even when viscosities or temperatures change during operation.

The brands Northwest Pump carries are built around these proven technologies, giving you options for everything from low-flow chemical dosing to high-speed truck loading.

Choosing the Right Fluid Meter

Selecting the right meter involves more than just line size and flow rate. Product viscosity, temperature, installation orientation, desired accuracy, and regulatory requirements all play a role. Northwest Pump can help you compare options from LC, Tuthill Fill-Rite, and TCS to find the best match for your application, whether you are metering fuel at a loading rack, tracking chemical usage, or monitoring process flows.

Frequently Asked Questions About Fluid Meters

What types of fluids can these meters handle?

The fluid meters we supply can measure a wide variety of liquids, including gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, LPG, lube oils, heavy oils, glycols, solvents, and many industrial process fluids. Specific compatibility depends on meter construction materials and seals, which we can help you select based on your application.

How do I know which meter technology is right for my application?

Meter selection depends on fluid viscosity, flow range, pressure, temperature, and required accuracy. Positive displacement and oval gear meters are often used for fuels and higher-viscosity products, while piston designs like the TCS 682 work well where wide turndown and high accuracy are needed. Our team can review your process conditions and recommend the best option.

What is “custody transfer” and why is accuracy so important?

Custody transfer refers to the point where ownership of a product changes hands—such as loading a fuel truck or transferring product between facilities. In these situations, accurate measurement is critical for billing, inventory control, and contract compliance. Custody transfer meters are designed and calibrated to meet high accuracy standards.

How often should fluid meters be calibrated or serviced?

Calibration intervals depend on operating conditions, product type, and regulatory requirements. Many customers follow an annual or semi-annual calibration schedule for custody transfer applications, while others adjust based on usage and internal QA/QC programs. We can help you develop a maintenance plan that fits your operation.

Can these meters be integrated with existing registers, controls, or automation systems?

Yes. Most of the meters we supply can be paired with mechanical or electronic registers, batch controllers, printers, and automation systems. Options vary by manufacturer and model, so let us know what equipment you’re using today, and we can recommend compatible solutions.
